On May 23, 2009, racers lined up on Washington Street in Harrisonburg to participate in the fourth annual All-American Soap Box Derby in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area.
Boys and girls ages 8 yrs. to 17 yrs. were pitted against each other in a race to the finish line. Each participant came with a support team - fathers, mothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, wanna-be 2010 participants– to lend their support and cheers!
In the end, it boiled down to a winner in each of the three divisions: Stock, Super Stock, and Masters with second and third place winners in each of the divisions, also.
The first place winners will head to Akron, Ohio for the 70th All-American Soap Box Derby at the Derby Downs on July 25th, 2009. Additionally, each winner receives $1,000.00 to help with fun and expenses in Akron.
