On May 28, 2011, racers lined up on Washington Street in Harrisonburg to participate in the sixth annual All-American Soap Box Derby in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County area.
Boys and girls ages 8 yrs. to 17 yrs. compete against each other in a race to the finish line. Each participant comes with a support team - fathers, mothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, wanna-be 2012 participants– to lend their support and cheers! You may also find a "celebrity" or two vying to race in the older vintage cars.
In the end, it boils down to a winner in each of the three divisions: Stock, Super Stock, and Masters with second and third place winners in each of the divisions, also.
The first place winners will head to Akron, Ohio for the 73rd All-American Soap Box Derby at the Derby Downs July, 2011. Additionally, each winner receives $1,000.00 to help with fun and expenses in Akron.
Thanks for all those who came out to see the sixth annual Harrisonburg All American Soap Box Derby Race, 2011!
